With the warm breezes fading away until 2017, it’s time to welcome autumn’s foliage and the fantastic events that take place between now and Halloween. With so many to chose from, we know it’s hard to decide what to fill your calendar with, so we created a best-of NYC list.
1. This weekend, enjoy the Kickoff to Fall at the Queens County Farmers Museum . Starting at 11AM on October 1st, there will be a corn maze to get lost in and apple cider to sip on while you watch the sheep get sheared to get you in the fall spirit.
2. The New York Film Festival is now in its 54th year. It’s one of the best events all year in New York City so get your tickets early so that you’re able to catch a show, and enjoy!
3. If you just can’t wait for Halloween, there is the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade , which as you guessed, features our canine friends decked out in their best costumes. Cash prizes for winners of Best in Show and pups up for adoption if you’ve decided you need a new best friend.

4. As of this writing, there are still tickets left for one day of ComiCon , but we don’t think they’ll be around for much longer. Well known to sell out (and sell out early), this event is a can’t-miss if you fancy yourself a Bruce Wayne, undercover.
5. If you haven’t been to Open House New York yet, this is the year to go. Open House New York is when New York opens up to the public -- literally. Historic buildings, private homes and the architectural brilliance of New York is on display. But hurry -- it’s only takes place for one weekend, October 15th and 16th.
6. The Giant Pumpkin Weekend takes place on October 22nd and 23rd and this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to check out enormous gourds -- some weighing up to 1,800 lbs -- at the New York Botanical Garden .
The Giant Pumpkin Weekend will feature pumpkins and their growers.
7. The New York City Wine and Food Festival seems to be getting better with every year. Over 500 of the top food and beverage creators convene for one weekend to bring the best of what the culinary arts has to offer in one space. The event is taking place October 13th through the 16th -- if you are a foodie, this is the event of the year to experience.
8. If you’re looking for a more romantic way to experience this autumn, make sure you take a stroll along the High Line . You’ll be able to appreciate the fall foliage throughout the park and as dusk rolls in, look for the high-powered telescopes that have been set up by the Amateur Astronomers Association to gaze at the stars.
It seems that once it becomes autumn in New York City and everyone has returned from their vacations, calendars become filled with all the wonderful adventures to be had. We hope this list helps you figure out what to see this year and you have a great time exploring!
